The following are mock ups for a few friends in the wedding industry. I feel honored, and humbled, to be trusted with the paper details of others who help a bride with her special day. It is a bi-product of being an invitationer that I simply had not expected when I first started out, but it has been an incredibly fun aspect to my business. I love creating new designs, and it seems that local industry leaders always have fun ideas that I can incorporate into their special projects….
Gotta love baby shower invitations… I was thrilled to be asked to design these. The first style is created with heavy weight silver paper, embossed with polka dots, and featuring a Swarovski heart on the front. The second invitation is simple, chic and fun, with polka dots and an elegant layout. Still toying with the idea of custom creating the wording, as opposed to the client filling in the information – but that is an easily altered decision to make.
And for my favorite photographer; heavy weight vellum, distressed, hand cut and scored . I also created a CD envelope for inside, that is made of the same vellum (no need to have an ugly white slip inside). The front will feature his logo, silk screened on, and the back will be wax sealed with his logo as well. Since I don’t have his logo, in either the brass stamp, nor silk screened yet, this is just a rough mock up…
My good friend Karen asked me to make up some invitations for her daughter’s upcoming dedication. This is what I designed for her:
After doing multiple shows, and meeting numerous clients, the one invitation that receives the most attention is my light purple fairy tale invitation. I think every girl deserves to have the most perfect invitation for her perfect day, but I also understand that $9.75 an invitation is not in everyone’s budget. With that in mind, I set out to create a similar invitation, in each price point, so girls and grooms can see the flexibility available. Mind you, things can always be tweaked, and altered to perfectly suit your needs.
Prestigious: $4.50 A simple, single page invitation, with most of the components of the fancier versions still on the invitation.
Luxurious: $6.25 Fancier than the prestigious invitation, with more room to embellish, and share your information. Butterflies also have rhinestones on them, to add a little bling.
Indulgent: $8.00 (includes menus) Beautiful rhinestone buckle adds detail, depth and interest to this particular invitation.
Exclusive: $9.75 (includes menus and thank you cards) Like a little book, celebrating your princess-ness. Enough pages to fill with photos, or maps, or RSVP information – you decide what’s pertinent to your happily ever after story.
I was woken up this morning by a coordinator from a bridal show leaving a message on my phone, calling my business VARIETY Ink. It happened back in September, at a different show, when businesses were announced by the MC when brides were called up to win a prize from each vendor. And, I have to figure, if people in the industry are not getting my name right, perhaps my clients are not either. And, I gotta admit, I love the name Verity Ink, but Variety Ink is just a little to cheesy for me. So, allow me to explain my choice.
Ten years ago, when I started making cards as a hobby, I wanted to stamp Something on the back. I fell in love with the word Verity, thought it suited, and started adding “handmade by Verity” on my cards. The word means “truth”. I love truth. And, it applies to cards, because, deep down, that’s what we are trying to convey, is it not? Sometimes, the truth in a card are words that we can only write out; they are too hard to say: ”I’m sorry for your loss”, “I love you Dad”, “I miss you more than words can express”. Truth. All over this little folded bit of paper. It’s why we spend so long in the store, trying to find the perfect words that someone else wrote, to convey our feelings, our heart. We are echoing the truth within us…..
Weddings are no different. The truth is, the family is overjoyed to invite you to be a part of such a special day. The truth is, the bride and groom are about to embark on a new life together, and they want you there. The truth is, they are thankful for the check that helped with their honeymoon they could not have taken otherwise…..
I added the “Ink” back in Windsor, six years ago, when an amazing woman Joan running a most fabulous high end gift store accepted my line of cards in her store. She wanted to fill out a receipt for me, and said: “What’s your business name?” I mumbled something about how I put the word “Verity” on the back of my cards, and we stood there playing around with what we could do with that. We collaborated on the idea of the word “Ink” as a play on the word “Inc”, and that was that.
If I can help a client express the truth of their heart, then I am doing my job. It’s why we spend so long at consultations. Personal style, and taste, is a different sort of truth. It’s not words, but a concept… We really are putting ourselves out there, when we design the invitations. These are all pure reflections of who you are as a bride, a couple, and putting the truth of this into paper form is what I consider to be my privilege as an invitationer.
