Melissa’s invitations are a bit of a departure from what I have done so far. There is no stamping. No scoring. No ribbon, or embellishments. But there is something quite wonderful about their simplicity, and I am quite happy with them. I know she will be too.
I love that the wording is personalized, and that they have chosen to include their children’s names on the invitations as well. Their celebration is a family celebration.
Melissa never saw a complete mock up, besides a pdf file, before we went ahead with them – I could have given her one, but I LOVE that clients are trusting, and that I am getting comfortable enough with what I am doing to promise great results.
Congratulations Melissa and Carlisle and family!!
I first met Trevor and his wife Trish at a photography get together back in the early spring, in London (yup, I go to photog get togethers – as Trevor kindly points out, I admit to stalking photographers as a past time). Trish and Trevor are a caring, sensible couple that clearly love all sorts of photography shoots – from weddings, to maternity and baby, and whatever else clients are wanting. They have an AMAZING studio in Ingersol, just outside of London, and clearly have a gift and passion for what they do.
Trevor showed tremendous enthusiasm for my press, and when I hosted a Sarnia and area wedding professionals get together in May, he was happy to make the drive from Ingersol – in part to see my new baby Freedom.
Needless to say, Trevor took lots of pics, and some video of the press in some of its first days in action, and has just recently blogged about the event on his site: http://customconcept.ca/blog/ Thank you Trevor, for taking the time to do this!!
Katie is one of my favourite clients. She’s adorable. And sensible. I love her laugh. And the fact that she clips my dog’s nails when she comes, because she cares about my pooches. She is easy to please, and is actually blessed with common sense (not so common, is it?). I think getting to know clients a bit over the course of a couple months is one of the greatest things about my job…
Katie has also recently started her own business – Sawmill Creek Dog’s Paw – and I know that she will succeed – because she’s such a sweetheart, and because my puppies think she is too…
Her seating chart for her wedding features a photo of her and Jake from their engagement shoot with Jer Wilcocks. Congratulations Katie and Jake, on your wedding tomorrow!!
Jennifer and Derek’s wedding was just this past Saturday. They are a beautiful couple, have a beautiful little family, and I was thrilled to be able to do so many coordinating things for their wedding. I had the pleasure of making their table numbers, menus,, programs and seating chart. I love making invitations, but there is something really cool about seeing your work as part of the larger picture, at the actual venue.
Ryan Longo was the decorator. Having worked in Toronto and Dubai, Ryan brings tasteful extravagance, and big city beauty to South Western Ontario. He is sweet, but confident, and has crazy beautiful ideas. Maryanne from Elegance Bridal was the planner. I loved working with her on this wedding, because I had the opportunity to see how she works. She provides the bride with details and small changes that the bride would not have thought to ask for, but which have an impact on the aesthetics of the big day. She cares a tremendous amount about how things look and feel, and goes beyond what is required of her to make sure things are as they ought to be.
Congratulations Jennifer and Derek!!
You know you have a supportive husband, when he lets you take over the dining room.
I had my studio in the basement for about a year, and as spring approached, and I got busier and busier, I found the idea of working in a room without natural light to be more depressing than I expected. I felt that even though my space was beautiful, and fun, and my own, I needed to be upstairs where the family was.
My girlfriend Angela was over, and we tore the house apart for a day. My mom came over a week or two later to help with the painting – and my dining room no longer even closely resembles a good place for fitting a dozen people around a table. But we do you use the space more than we used to – and I find that when I am busy on a project, my little table becomes the center of the home. The kids like to sit opposite me, and colour or chat; and Brad often either helps out, or keeps me company. The space is much more client-friendly too, as guests no longer have to get dragged through my basement.
I love having a home office. I never wanted to work outside of the home, and am blessed to be able to have such a great space for myself. I have longterm dreams of hardwood floors, and custom cabinets to hide all my envelopes and papers and things, but in the meantime, my studio space is everything I could hope for, for my little growing business.
