“A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves – a special kind of double.”
Laurel and I are close. That is to say, I love her better than pretty much everybody on this planet. She is strong, and wise. She is practical, and matter-of-fact. She says what she thinks, and doesn’t apologize for it…. She’s a lot of things I am not. But, she gets me. She offers me a very practical approach to my problems, and we enjoy a friendship that involves never having to apologize for the day we’re having or the mood we are in. She listens well. She adores my children. She is one of the greatest blessings in my life, and I am so glad we enjoy one of those sisterly friendships that most people seem to deny is possible…
So, to say I was excited when my sister told me she was expecting is an understatement. Rejoicing with her in this pregnancy has been one of the greatest experiences of my life – all the enthusiasm that I had for my own, but none of the morning sickness. I can not wait to meet baby Esser.
Designing Laurel’s shower invites was a pleasure. I knew we wanted something sweet, but not in typical baby colors. And generic, because even though the midwives know whether Baby is a boy or girl, Laurel and Leland did not want to find out. (Torture!!) Congratulations Leland and Laurel, I can not wait to meet your baby!!
I keep saying it, I know. But really, is there anything better when starting out a business relationship than knowing that the person that’s working for you loves what they do? I have been in love with stamping, and card creating for 10 years now… But my love of my presses usurps that. Because they are big and old and smell like oil and metal and garage and ink. Because seeing a well-done project kinda gives me the chills. Because every time I get going on a project I don’t want it to end. Because I can’t wait to start the next one….
Maryanne, who owns the incredibly chic Elegance Bridal in Sarnia, and is also an amazing wedding planner, approached me for letterpress business cards. We played around with a few ideas, and asked my graphic designer Rey for some layout ideas. He quickly and competently whipped up a few choices, and the end result is a streamlined business card that conveys all of the areas that Elegance can help brides with their big day.
I LOVE letterpress. The struggle that goes with creating a good make ready… The satisfaction when I finally get it right. The ink that stays on my arm for days… mixing colors, feeding the paper, the smells…. it’s all an ethereal experience for me. It makes me want to get right back in there….
I love doing little projects – they give me a chance to get the creative juices flowing. Jenn came to me wanting some baby cards; she is a doula in the Windsor area, and would like to offer a written congratulation to her mommas.
I LOVE these cards. I am using the same images for my sister’s baby shower invitations (to be posted soon); I think they are sweet, while being modern and a little outside of the normal baby colour choices.
I had heard the buzz about Ryan coming back to the Sarnia area for the month leading up to his first bridal show here. I had heard he had just come back from Toronto, and the Middle East, having done fabulous weddings in big cities for the last four years. I was eager to meet him, and was pleased that the hype did not disappoint.
Ryan draped out an entire area at the Hiawatha show in February, and his booth was amazing. I introduced myself, and we hit it off. I can’t help gushing a little bit when I find something really special, and Ryan’s creativity and vision are worth gushing about…
I was thrilled when Ryan asked me to create place cards, menus and table numbers for his latest show in London. It was an opportunity for me to get some design time in with letterpress, and I always consider it a privilege when a local vendor trusts me enough to do projects for them. Ryan’s booth was like nothing else at the show, and I am sure London brides were thrilled with the fresh, glam and bold ideas that he wowed them with.
Ryan is going to take South Western Ontario by storm with his impeccable taste, unique ideas, and fresh perspective on how a wedding could look. He is easy to work with, and puts 110% into everything he does. I trust you’ll enjoy working with him as much as I do!!
You can find Ryan online and on facebook
