The Design Process

At Verity Ink studio, we value our client’s uniqueness, and strive in every project to bring out their own personalities and ideas.

What makes the experience with us so unique is the way we approach our consultations. When I sit down with a bride we start the design process immediately. It becomes a really exciting collaborative work, where over the course of an hour and a half to two hours we design an invitation that looks very similar to what the end result will be. My clients have consistently been able to enjoy bringing home a sample of their invitation the first time we have sat down together.

We start from the ground up each time. I encourage brides to look through invitations I have created in the past – to get a feel for their style. We decide on things at this point like what layout appeals (perhaps a standard 5×7 invitation, but maybe an invitation that is longer and slimmer – something that’s 4×9.25 inches). We match color samples with paper – brides often bring swatches from their bridesmaids dresses, but maybe it’s just from an image online, or a certain flower. From here we start into the text, choosing the wording and fonts – something that has a cohesive feel with the rest of what we are working with.

If the invitations are letterpressed I still try and provide a printed sample. Certainly not the same thing at all, but at the very least the colour is similar, and we can get a great feel for the design, size of text, and overall aesthetic.

If the invitation is not letterpressed, we usually work our way through a few different designs until the bride says something like “That’s it!  That’s my invitation!” This is typically preceded by experimenting with a few different fonts, a couple of different stamp sets, and various accessories such as different ribbons or rhinestones.

Whether the invitation is letterpress or custom stamped, I have never done an invitation quite the same way twice.  That’s the beauty of working with our custom design house.  You are mailing your guests a reflection of you and your style, and of your upcoming wedding.
